Slow pitch softball became very popular in post WWII America. Churches, local organizations and industries participated locally in league play in places like Troy and Christiansburg, as well as traveling for tournaments. Cove Spring Church sponsored a team (Cove Blue) that played very competitively and eventually a second team (Cove Red) that also competed well. Folks enjoyed watching them play at the softball diamond at the corner of Staunton Rd. and North Market Street in Troy.
