Looking back on the area’s rich history in baseball and softball, Elizabeth Township Historical Society partnered with Elizabeth Township Community Center in July of 2021 to host a softball tournament in a similar manner that Cove Spring Church used to do. We hosted the first Betsy Bearcat Classic, named in honor of the high school teams of Elizabeth High School.
Nic Rice, director of Elizabeth Township Community Center, was instrumental in helping secure teams just for the occasion from around the Miami East School District and beyond.
Folks watched the softball games and visited, while kids enjoyed the playground. ETHS volunteers served hot dogs, snacks, ice cream and water to hungry participants and their fans. It was a great community day!
For the fourth year in a row, we look forward to another fun day of softball, hot dogs, ice cream, and visiting with friends and neighbors. On Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Elizabeth Township Community Center. It’s a nod to our township’s rich past in many ways…church socials, reunions, baseball and softball teams, a small community coming together to enjoy a summer pastime. It’s also a celebration of joy in the moment…and a small investment in the community of Elizabeth Township. It will certainly be chock full of fun and fellowship for everyone. We hope you join us! Bring your lawn chairs (and sunscreen:).
