Elizabeth Township’s cemeteries hold many stories that should be told. Here is one we just came upon recently:

Eliab Widener was born and raised in Elizabeth Township. He was a First Lieutenant in the 71st Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Sadly, he was killed at the Battle of Nashville on December 16, 1864. He married Ellen Turner 85 days before he was killed. Mrs. Widener lived until 1925 and never remarried. They are both buried in Kyle Cemetery on Tipp-Elizabeth Road. Although Eliab had no children, his brothers and sisters have many descendants who still live in and around Elizabeth Township.
