On Sunday, March 2, 2025, the Elizabeth Township Historical Society held its General Membership Meeting at Elizabeth Township Community Center. Presenters, Cameron Armstrong and Sharon Ochs Maingi discussed cemetery preservation with an audience of about 40 people.

Mrs. Armstrong shared best practices in restoring/cleaning headstones compiled by ETHS cemetery committee member, Flora Rectenwald. She then shared work completed by her family and STONEHUGGERS, INC. on Gearheart Cemetery, which sits on their property.

Mrs. Maingi discussed restoration of Veteran headstones and shared photos of the two Veteran dedication ceremonies ETHS has held in the past year. She also discussed the application process of replacing Veteran headstones from the US Veteran Administration.

Mrs. Maingi then introduced her book, The Cemeteries of the Elizabeth Township, Miami County, Ohio Historic District. She  thanked township trustees for their continued support in maintaining the township’s cemeteries by dedicating the book to them as well as longtime member, Linda Campbell, for her work in cemetery preservation. There will be more details on where and when this book will be available very soon.

ETHS will  work on restoring Veteran headstones in the southern section of Casstown Cemetery this spring and summer thanks to a grant from the Miami County Foundation and other generous donations. Quite a few attendees volunteered to help with the project in the coming months. **Please contact us if you would like to be added to the list of volunteers!

**Donations for this project are still being accepted!

We extend  a special thank you  to our presenters and their collaborators! It was a very engaging and informative evening.
